The Grand Mario is located on the ground floor of Ratu Plaza in Jakarta. Located in the center of the new electronic hub of Jakarta means it is connected to 3 WiFi connection Indosatnet, iBox, and estore, unless you can figure out the passwords for iBox or estore your best bet for wireless connection here is Indosatnet and it is accessible through subscription.
The place is quite comfortable for people to come and have a break at whether it's for a short lunch break, short informal meetings or to relax after a long day. Located just under the atrium it gives the place a somewhat outdoor feeling, the tall green umbrellas, rattan chairs surrounding trees and the occasional fly also helps the feeling despite it being located indoors and right in the middle of everything electronic. The waiters here seems to know when you want to be served or left alone even when you're not doing anything. The cafe also has a grand piano located inside so I can only assume that it is used in some occasion.
Now on to the food. While it promotes itself as a cafe and lounge it serves the usual coffee and cakes along with main dishes such as beef bulgogi, which makes it the quintessential Indonesian cafe. The y have a good selection of cakes coffees and other cold and hot drink, but I did not come here for the main dish, I came here for the cakes and coffee. I ordered a slice of tiramisu and a glass of irish coffee. I have to say the tiramisu here is nothing for them to be proud of but better than most tiramisu I've had in this city, considering the taste and the size the price is not very well adjusted. The irish coffee I have to say is a little too strong for my taste but it helps make the tiramisu taste better, I can't be sure of it's because of the bitterness or the liqueur they have in it.
The Grand Mario is probably one of the better cafes in Jakarta for people to come and wind down before going back to the busy world, the unique outdoor feel definitely helps to relax the mind and escape from the concrete feel that is common in Jakarta.
