Gridlocked!

I went to land of the tree store (きのくにや/木の国屋) today to look at some books and to see whether they've updated the 漫画 section, it seemed like I picked the wrong day to go out today, the streets were packed, I mean really packed, it's so packed you can't fit a nother car in, and none of them moved much I never thought that moving 100m can take 10 minutes. Anyway, after a few hours I finally arrived at my intended destination, bought a book (something about islamic fundamnetalism), waited for about an hour before I went home to avoid heavy traffic, the bad thing about having this idea is you're not the only one, good thing the traffic wasn't as bad as it was before.

of the book? Islam & the myth of confrontation by Fred Halliday. I'm just trying to understand all this fundamentalist crap that's going on, it's great for sociological research but not so great for writing.

For starters, how do you define fundamentalism? who are the fundementalist? and how is it different from extremists?

You'll probably say its a matter of perspective (HAR! HAR!) but as with everything there's got to be a general public perception of who and what they are.
