Playing the devil's advocate

Imagine a world where everyone can purchase more than their basic needs, a world where everyone lives in a decent home, a world without poverty, sounds nice doesn't it? Now let's take a look at the other side of this brightly polished coin with 6 billion people currently living in this godforsaken planet everyone will need energy and with what limited energy resource we have left this will run out in 30 years if poverty is completely eradicated within the next 5 years because these people will then be able to buy more than they need not to mention food and living space, education didn't stop population increase or decrease the use of limited resources, nobody can stop this mass pillage of the planet it's human nature to use up whatever resources we have and move on. Now the question is, do you really want to eliminate poverty?

What a person can come up with when he's got too much free time.

Speaking of which, what's with the phrase "time in one's hands"? Can we even hold a constantly moving abstract concept that is time, in our hands? It's not even a physical object that can be touched yet people often refer to it as such.

An object does not have to be physically "held", one can "hold" an abstract or non physical object an in case of time it is possible to hold time since we are still the flow of time, while we do not physically hold time in an abstract sense it is possible for us to hold something that flows with our existence even if it's just a concept or an idea, to have the idea of time itself can mean that you hold time, but this does not imply that we are able to manipulate the "object"
